History and Purpose:
The Ashland Garden Club (AGC) was created on August 14, 1950 with twenty-five members. The club is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that strives to uphold the club’s theme,  aims, and pledge through a multitude of community projects and activities.

Club Theme: Ashland’s Beauty: Our Civic Duty

Club Aims: To keep our flowers growing in beauty, our friendships growing in understanding and our service to the community growing in scope and fruitfulness.

Club Pledge: I pledge to support the Club in its objectives to educate and promote gardening, conserve and preserve natural resources and become a caretaker of the planet.

How AGC fulfills it goals and mission:

The Ashland Garden Club (AGC) was created in 1950, and currently has 58 members. 

AGC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (Fed ID 93-1187598) that strives to uphold the club’s theme, aims, and pledge through a multitude of community projects and activities. 

AGC’s mission is centered on gardening and plant education, guided by our theme: “Ashland’s Beauty: Our Civic Duty”, and our club pledge, “to support the Club’s objectives to educate and promote gardening, conserve and preserve natural resources and become a caretaker of the planet.” 

To fulfill this mission, we engage in several key community initiatives:

  – N. Mountain Park Heirloom Garden: AGC members have been caretaking and providing plants for this garden since 1999. AGC members meet at the park monthly from Feb-Nov to work in this garden. 

  – Educational Lectures: From October to May, The Club offers free public lectures monthly on a multitude of topics such as: Firewise landscaping, native plants, environmental issues, wildlife habitats, composting, water conservation, and food production and more.

  – Online Resources: Articles are posted on the club’s website covering a plethora of garden topics.

  – Scholarships and Grants: AGC offers an annual scholarship to a Rogue Community College student pursuing horticultural sciences, and provide grants to community and school gardens, and other related projects, like Ashland Pond.

  – Annual Plant Sale: The Club has hosted this event for 47 years to promote gardening and raise funds for our   scholarship and grant programs.

  – Community Recognition: From April to October, the Club present a “Garden of the Month” award to a local residential or commercial property. Garden of the Month recipients are featured in the Ashland News and on AGC’s website.
