Ashland Garden Club Structure:
- Ashland Garden Club (AGC) is a Non-Profit Organization.
- The Executive Board consist of the President, 1st & 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary & Treasurer.
- The Board of Directors is the Exec. Board plus Chairpersons of the Standing Committees.
- AGC's Yearbook provides club information & contact numbers.
- ACG’s monthly newsletter The Garden Clippings reports on board meetings and provides general information regrading club activities.
- AGC is a member of the following organizations: The Siskiyou District, The Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., The Pacific Region Garden Clubs, Inc. and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
Siskiyou District:
- The Siskiyou District encompasses Jackson and Josephine Counties.
- The District has a Director, Assistant Director, Secretary, and Treasure.
- The Siskiyou Signal Newsletter is published twice a year.
- District meetings are held twice a year, spring and fall.
- Each garden club in the district rotates hosting these meetings.
- The location is decided by the hosting club. Time is always: 9am - 3pm
- The District Director reports on District, State & National Garden Club activities.
- Club Presidents report their club’s activities at the spring meeting
Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. (OSFGC)
- The state board meets twice per year, spring and fall.

Ashland Garden Club
Membership:
- AGC dues are $20 a year for an Individual / $30 for a Family.
- Portions of these dues go toward:
- Dues to the Siskiyou District and The State Garden Club.
- Cost of printing the yearbook
- AGC's General Fund. This money is used for ongoing expenses and special projects the membership decides to fund.
- AGC Members are expected to:
- Serve on the Refreshment Committee once a year.
- To participate in club activities.
- Understand the Standing Rules and the By-Laws, which are printed in the Yearbook.
Executive Board & Board of Directors:
Executive Board:
- Executive Board members are nominated, or they volunteer, then they are elected by the membership. Board terms are for two years. Promotion is voluntary, not automatic
Board of Directors:
- Board of directors consist of the Executive Board plus Standing Committees Chairpersons.
Board Meetings:
- Location & Time - The board meets on the fourth Friday at the Ashland Community Center, or Pioneer Hall at 10AM. There are no Board meetings June or July.
- Monthly Agenda -Decisions are made for the organization. Committee Chairpersons submit activity reports. Old and new business is reviewed and voted on, unless the issue requires a membership vote.
AGC Committees:
- Committees make the decisions based upon the task charged to the committee. Any member may volunteer to be on a committee. The length of commitment (months/yrs) is whatever the volunteer decides.
Standing Rules:
- These rules were developed from guidelines provided by the State and District Garden Clubs and from AGC experiences since it's organization in 1950. They are changed or updated by necessity, as times and costs change. Changes are proposed by the Board and voted upon by the Membership.
Community Service Projects:
The Walker Family Memorial Fund:
- History: $25,000 was donated in 2003 to the AGC by the estate of Reed Walker. His wife, Carolee Walker died in 1998. Carolee was a very active member of AGC and was instrumental in starting the Plant Sale with the proceeds going to a senior graduating from Ashland High School. When AGC received the gift from Reed Walker, the membership voted to continue giving the scholarship to an AHS senior in memory of Carolee and Reed Walker, thus the name: The Walker Family Memorial Scholarship.
- This money is used to provide a $1000 scholarship each year to an Ashland High Senior. AGC’s choice of recipient is based upon an essay submitted to the Scholarship Committee.
- The money is held in a 12-month Certificate of Deposit earning interest.
- This scholarship stays in effect until the money has been depleted.
The Southern Oregon University Scholarship:
- The S.O.U. Scholarship is funded solely by AGC’s annual Plant Sale.
- SOU chooses the recipient based upon essays submitted to the Environmental Sciences and Studies department.
AGC’s Annual Plant Sale:
- The annual plant sale raise funds for the SOU Scholarship. The plant sale is held in May in the Ashland Safeway parking lot (Safeway permission required).
- Plants for sale come from member’s gardens and greenhouses and plant donations from North Mountain Park and Ashland Parks and Recreation.
Feast of Will - Lion's Club/Oregon Shakespeare Festival /AGC Membership Volunteer Program:
- The Feast of Will is a community-sponsored celebration of the official opening of OSF's Elizabethan Theatre for the season, held in June in Lithia Park.
- Member’s bring flowers and greens and help create 180 table arrangements.
- For this participation, members are given OSF credit toward the 24 hours needed to reserve/receive one free ticket to EACH of the following year's OSF shoulder-season’s plays.
Veteran’s Administration Chapel Flowers:
- To honor our service personnel, AGC provides flower arrangements for one month to the non-denominational chapel at the Veterans Administration Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center (SORC) in White City.
- Club members deliver flower arrangements for four Saturdays in one month (April through September). The SORC staff and residents assist with clean up and arrangement placement.
- The District Board assign clubs their month for delivery.
- A fifth Saturday in a month is filled by the District Board members.
Garden of the Month:
- Recognition and award for resident and non-residential gardens.
- Recipients chosen by the Garden of the Month committee.
Planting in Lithia Park:
- AGC volunteers assist the understaffed Ashland Parks’ crew in planting flowers provided by the Parks Department in several flower beds in Lithia Park.
North Mountain Park:
- AGC has a volunteer committee who plant and maintains the Heirloom Garden in front of the North Mountain Park offices, in partnership with Ashland Parks and Recreation. All AGC members are encouraged to participate.
November’s Garland Assembly:
- AGC pays its rent for use of the Community Center/Pioneer Hall buildings by volunteering to decorate the fronts of the Community Center and Pioneer Hall, in partnership with Ashland Park’s crew.
December Greens Workshop:
- To kick off the Holidays and to raise money for AGC's General Fund AGC has a wreath-making workshop. The wreaths made from this workshop are sold at the holiday potluck in December.
Penny Pines for Oregon:
- Penny Pines is a National Garden Clubs Program. AGC collects money throughout the year. Each $68.00 accumulated is contributed towards the reforestation of an acre of an Oregon National Forest.
Honoring Members: Defined
OSFGC Certificate of Appreciation:
- A Certificate of Appreciation is given for Outstanding Participation at the state level.
- The OSFGC Board of Directors decides the recipient.
OSFGC Book of Friendship:
- The Book of Friendship is a way to recognize & honor AGC members for outstanding service to our garden club.
- The Board proposes the recipient, then the recipient is chosen by membership votes.
- AGC donates ten dollars to the state garden club for a Book of Friendship certificate. The state puts this money toward the state’s Claire Hanley Scholarship Fund for Horticulture Students.
OSFGC Claire Hanley Life Membership:
- Retiring club presidents are presented with a life membership from the state garden club.
National Garden Club Life Membership:
- Given for Outstanding Participation at the state level.
- OSFGC Board of Directors decides recipient.
Memorial Bricks at North Mountain Park, Ashland:
- For remembrance of members, or non-members, who have devoted significant service to the Ashland Garden Club.
Honorary Membership:
- Nominations may be made by any member of the club to honor our most senior members with dues-free membership. The Past Presidents’ Council forwards this nomination to the Board.
